BALLOT BY MAIL: With a summer election and only one week of early voting, there may be many people who need to vote by mail. If you will be away from Cooke County on Election Day AND during early voting, I urge you to vote by mail!It’s time to request a mail ballot, if you need to. The following information was copied from www.votexas.org, website of the Texas Secretary of State:

Only specific reasons entitle a registered voter to vote early by mail (no longer called absentee voting). You may request a ballot by mail if you:

  1. will be away from your county on Election Day and during early voting;
  2. are sick or disabled;
  3. are 65 years of age or older on Election Day; or
  4. are confined in jail.

Procedure:

First, request an Application for Ballot by Mail (ABBM) from the Early Voting Clerk (County Clerk Rebecca Lawson, 940-668-5420) in your county of registration, or from our office. Once received, read the instructions carefully, complete the ABBM form and return to the Early Voting Clerk. The dates applicable to the July 31, 2012 Primary Runoff Election are as follows: the first day you may submit an ABBM for the primary runoff is June 1, 2012, if you did not check the runoff ballot on your application for the main primary election; the last day (or deadline) to submit an ABBM is July 24, 2012---this is NOT A POSTMARK DATE---the ABBM must be RECEIVED IN THE OFFICE OF THE EARLY VOTING CLERK by July 24, 2012, in order for you to receive a ballot by mail.
